It will fold/roll up along the mast, and then can be un-stepped and strapped down on the yak. I’ll do another post of more details if the sewing comes out as planned today.
I tried to make the sail area close to a mid-range number compared to those that are commercially available. The Hobies are considerably more. I’ll measure this one out when it is sewn up up. Good tip on the sail cloth at Singer- I assumed no one would have it here. The poly-tarp is cheap and convenient for a first run- I also considered clear shower curtain so I can see through it.

Cool. I’ve seen a bunch of these on Flickr. All bought retail, though. Not DIY. Are you rigging it to fold down on the deck when not in use?

That’s about top yardage for your kayak I’d think. If that material doesn’t work out the Singer store has the sail material for 7.99- 8.99 a yard.
